Hamachi Download Info

Hamachi is a free Instant Messenger that specialises in P2P exchanges.

Hamachi is a free Instant Messenger, specialising in peer-to-peer data exchange. It enables two computers on the internet to talk to eachother regardless of firewalls through a so called VPN. You can see other machines in your hamachi network in your network neighbourhood, so it´s easy to exchange files, as they would be in your own network neighbourhood. Also you can play LAN games over the internet, that have only support for local network gaming.

A great VPN client, that can be used by everyone.

Hamachi is a messenger service which also lets you send and receive files over a private network. All you need is internet connection and the details of the person you wish to connect to.

With Hamachi you can create a Private network in which you can decide who connects and what you wish to share. This is done in much the same way as windows network, However there is very little configuration required in order to host and join networks. However in order to share files and folders with the Logmein service you are required to have knowledge of windows file and print sharing as this is the protocol that is used for sharing files and folders.

When someone tries to connect to your private network you have the option (if configured) to decide who to allow to connect to your private network. Once you have other users connected you can start to share files and chat with each other over the Hamachi messenger service.

Overall I am in two minds about this as firstly it is easy to set up and install and create/join networks and once you are connected the messenger service works well as a basic functioning messenger service. On the other hand in order to share and receive folders those who are connected need to have knowledge of Windows file and print services. Which for most who have such knowledge are more than capable to set up a VPN over the internet.

So in-conclusion if you want a basic messenger service with network support that takes some of the work out of File and print sharing then this is an option.

Hamachi is not only good for chatting and data exchanges. It offers also the opportunity to play games as if you were connected to your friends by LAN.
